| . . . . . . . | I'd like to share a strange experience with you, which I witnessed with four
others present, including
Bruno Bellamy. On October 24 of '96, near Romorantin in the "Loir et Cher", I was very surprised to see strange white filaments in the sky, softly hovering. |
There was practically no wind, and these filaments seemed to hang in midair, affected by every wind current. The longest ones were up to 3 meters (14 ft) in length. They were of irregular thickness, with some threads sticking to others. These filaments landed up getting caught in trees, or fell to the ground, getting stuck in the shrubs. On this photograph, the top leaves of this chestnut tree are about 20 cm (8 in.) and the lenght of the thread is about 2 m (6ft +) long.

This observation lasted about an hour and a half, but made way to another phenomenon in the sky, just as odd. A very strange rainbow appeared above us - an upside-down rainbow. It didn't form a "bridge," but rather like a smile above us. It seemed in fact that the arc we could see made roughly a third of a complete circle, the center of which could have been directly vertical from us. I must add there was no storm and that the sky was perfectly clear. This rainbow stayed in sight for about fifteen minutes before gradually vanishing.
I took pictures of all this, and I also gathered samples of that strange stuff, which I still have. Strangely enough, unlike the ones I collected, the filaments that were all over the trees and fields disappeared after a day or two.

No doubt there is something in common to these two phenomena, but to this day I've found no answers nor even theories for what I witnessed on that occasion. Here then is my account as well as some pictures I took, in case it does anything for you. The only report I've been able to find describing such white filaments is that of "angel hair," filaments dropped by certain kinds of UFO's, apparently a phenomenon well known to ufologists. Unfortunately, that day I saw lots of things in the sky, but no UFO. |
